The year 2020 will be remembered forever for COVID-19. The pandemic is considered as the most crucial global health calamity of the century and the greatest challenge that the humankind faced since the 2nd World War. It has led to a dramatic loss of human life worldwide and presents an unprecedented challenge to public health, food systems and the world of work. Nearly half of the world’s 3.3 billion global workforce are at risk of losing their livelihoods. The data science, artificial intelligence, and other IT industries have also been unexceptionally impacted by the pandemic. CADSEA observed the anxieties among the professionals during this tough time and we successfully held our second annual conference with the topic ‘Planning Beyond the Pandemic’ to help the community comprehend the situation and tackle the challenges.
This conference had three sessions: keynote speech, partner panel, and volunteer award announcement. For the keynote speech we invited 3 senior guests from both academia and industry. They were:
Clarence Kwan. Clarence is a retired senior leader in financial advisory and management. He had more than 40 years of experience in US, China and Europe. Some highlights of his experience include former chair-elect of Committee of 100 and founding partner of Deloitte Czech Republic. In his inspiring speech Clarence shared his experience in how to grow into a leader in the workplace and what he gained during the 2008 recession. Clarence also told his personal stories and openly talked about the lessons he learned during his long career.
Danielle Liu. Danielle is a senior partner of CGL, a former VP of HR at Veredit Group, former director of HR at Home Depot in Asia, and former director of HR at Deutsche Bank in China. Danielle analyzed the US job market of 2020 in great detail and gave her advice on how to shine in the interviews from the perspective of HR, and how to prepare yourself in this time of changes.
Ryan Engstrom. Ryan is the director of Data Science at George Washington University. His informative presentation demoed how the pandemic impacted on the college, what’s changing in the major choices during this year, and what the perspective students should expect from the college during the COVID-19 and after.
The speeches were followed by the panel discussion. This year we had sponsorship from Robert D’andrea (D’ANDREA LAW Corp.), Victor Wang (Intelagile LLC), Jie Yong (TwoSum Data Camp). They talked about immigration, job market, and continuing education, as well as why they chose CADSEA as their partner. Jeremy Wu, chair of CADSEA advisory committee and former chair of Committee of 100, also talked about the ARPP project he had been working on. The panelists interacted with the audience and answered many questions.
After the panel discussion, Richard Xie bestowed certificates to the volunteers who worked closely with the operation teams in 2020.
Jidong Zhang, the vice chair of CADSEA gave a hearty greeting on behave of the board and thanked the hard work of the operation teams and the volunteers. Richard Xie, the president of CADSEA, presented the 2020 annual reports.
The moderators, Tiger Tang and Fei Xing, hosted the conference.
Thank you all of our guests, sponsors, and volunteers!
